Cudgee

Location is the key appeal of the eastern part of Moyne, especially for families who want big blocks close to major centres like Warrnambool. Eastern Moyne is also closer to Melbourne, just three hours away compared with Port Fairy’s four-hour trip.

Cudgee is booming: its population has grown from 238 in 2016 to 311 in 2021, with 40 homes built in that time.

Cudgee now features large family homes on big blocks, though quaint timber cottages and former shops reveal a layered history and Cudgee Primary School is one of Victoria’s public schools, dating from 1862.

There are some amazing gardens in this pretty locale so it’s no wonder there’s a thriving garden club that meets at the Cudgee hall. One local even runs ‘horticultural therapy’ for mental health.

Originally named Brucknell Creek for the waterway that winds through it and located just off the Princes Highway, Cudgee is 10 minutes from Warrnambool’s, 40 minutes from Port Fairy and 30 minutes from the Great Ocean Road. Local beauty spot Hopkins Falls is five minutes away.
