Crossley

These tiny localities neighbour Koroit, on either side of Tower Hill volcano and wildlife reserve.

Property here is highly coveted, especially if they offer panoramic views and/or acreage. Once home to dozens of small farms, these pockets are now largely lifestyle blocks, though potato and onion farming does continue.

Around 80 people live in Tower Hill (southeast side of the volcano) and 235 in Crossley on the western side.

There’s no longer any shops in Crossley but it does have one of the amazing community hubs and music venues in all of Moyne. The deconsecrated St Brigid’s church is treasured for its magnificent interior and acoustics, while the old school hall is the pumping venue for the monthly 15 Minutes of Fame competition.

The local community bought the imposing Romanesque red-brick church and former school in 2009.

The ongoing restoration and maintenance of the 110-year-old church is a labour of love for the local Men’s Shed volunteers and Friends of St Brigid’s Association, which hires out the buildings and extensive grounds and stages fundraising events. These active volunteers exemplify the strong community spirit that is still very much alive across Moyne.
