Yambuk

Neighbouring Port Fairy 20km to the west, Yambuk offers a sea/tree-change lifestyle without the Port Fairy price tag.

The township proper is about 6km from tranquil Lake Yambuk (with a popular shire-run caravan park, great fishing and giant beach slide) and the coast. The coast is wild and spectacular, it’s best suited to surfing and beach fishing than swimming (the lake is much safer).

Yambuk was once a thriving township, but now only has a general store/post office/fuel stop on the Princes Highway – which is much appreciated by locals, who number around 300.

Hopes are high for a reborn Yambuk pub, the 1871-built bluestone lying empty for too many years now.

Most farming families in Yambuk have a long history with the district, stretching back five to seven generations. Newer residents are converting historic buildings such as the old church into their permanent residence or country retreat.

There’s no longer a school but school buses run to Port Fairy and Warrnambool. Affordable homes in town and larger lifestyle properties occasionally hit the market and currently there are town blocks priced at under $200k.
