Orford
Orford is sought-after by those seeking the country lifestyle but with services, cafes and beaches close by.
Just 15 minutes from Port Fairy, when a property does come on the market, it’s snapped up pretty quickly.
Orford has a great little community of 115 residents, including farmers whose links with the district go back generations, retirees, families and newcomers who work in the larger towns such as Port Fairy, Koroit, Warrnambool or Hamilton.
School buses run to Hawkesdale’s P-12, Port Fairy primary schools and Warrnambool.
Orford is best known for its annual vintage rally (featuring a tractor pull, vintage cars and trucks and beaut utes), held at the Orford sports ground, a usually peaceful spot set amid bushland and popular with campers. The Orford Hall is the town hub for community catch-ups and cards and occasional weddings, and parties. It’s also a venue for the long-running Orford and District Table Tennis Association.
As with other towns in Moyne, older buildings in Orford have been converted to residences, such as the old school building and the former church. A few new homes have been built in recent years.
