Macarthur

The first thing that strikes you about this gorgeous little town is its beautifully preserved buildings,  many of which have been converted into residences.

Macarthur has general store open daily for business, a public swimming pool, plus a new all-abilities splashpark.

There’s also a primary school and school buses to larger towns; excellent sports and recreational facilities (golf, bowls); active community groups (Lions Club, historical society); and well-patronised healthcare services (visiting doctors, district nurses, social support, and a weekday chemist).

Located at the Macarthur Primary School, the Macarthur Library opens on Mondays offering access to a small browsing collection and reservations pickup.

Under an hour’s drive northwest from Port Fairy, Macarthur is a gateway to the World Heritage-listed Budj Bim Cultural Landscape, including the fabulous Tae Rak café and aquacultural centre – a must-visit for tourists and locals alike. Suffoir winery, brewery and distillery is a booming little business just out of town. Home to around 470 residents, Macarthur has much to offer.

Macarthur residents can travel just 25 minute to nearby Hamilton for schools, shopping and a regional hospital.
