Framlingham
Framlingham and tiny Framlingham East, both lie next to the Hopkins River.
Land between Framlingham and Purnim was the site of an Aboriginal mission station (1865-1889) and the district retains a strong indigenous presence; around a quarter of Framlingham’s 170 residents are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
The long-established Kirrae Health Service serves the Framlingham Aboriginal community, and Framlingham Forest, an indigenous protected area, and the Hopkins River continue to provide resources for the traditional owners. There are at last five primary schools within 20km and Warrnambool is 30km away.
Framlingham East is home to just 25 residents, but it does have a golf club! Another of Moyne’s hidden gems.
