Lagom, Port Fairy

When Camilla opened the doors of Lagom on Melbourne Cup Day in 2025, it felt like everything had fallen into place.

Originally from Sweden, Camilla moved to Port Fairy 15 years ago and had been keeping an eye on retail opportunities, when the shopfront at 30 Sackville Street became available at exactly the right moment.

"It was meant to be," she says. "Everything just fell into place."

This week marks one year in business for Lagom, the distinctive home and garden store that has quickly become a favourite among locals and visitors alike, offering weird and wonderful things that make your home and your life that much more interesting.

The name Lagom comes from a Swedish philosophy meaning "not too much, not too little" and reflects the idea of balance. It's a concept that extends throughout the store, where carefully selected homewares, gifts and garden pieces create a space that feels both inspiring and unique.

Camilla saw a gap in the market for something different.

"A lot of shops seemed to sell similar things," she says. "I wanted to create a place where people could find unique gifts and homewares they wouldn't see everywhere else."

With a passion for interior design, Camilla has personally curated every corner of the store. The result is an eclectic collection that reflects her eye for detail and love of beautiful spaces.

The response from customers has been overwhelmingly positive.

"People tell me every day how much they love the shop and how unique it is for the region," she says. "They compliment how it has been curated. I just wanted to create a little bit of magic in this shop."

One year on, that little bit of magic has become a valued part of Port Fairy's retail landscape, proving that sometimes the best business stories begin when the right opportunity arrives at exactly the right time.
